Safety Patrol
North Bend Elementary Safety Patrol Program

Safety Patrol is a leadership opportunity for fourth- and fifth-grade student volunteers at North Bend Elementary. Patrol members help monitor crosswalks and walkways to keep students safe during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.
The program is led by Mrs. Tripp, who organize schedules, training, and patrol assignments.
Students on Safety Patrol learn responsibility, teamwork, and leadership while serving their school community.

Safety Patrol Information
Can I do Safety Patrol if I ride the bus?
Yes! However, you are only able to sign up for the AM shift. Morning bus riders will arrive at school and can go straight to duty. There are NO buses available for afternoon patrol. If you choose to do PM patrol, you need to arrange for someone to pick you up or walk home if you have permission to walk home.
How will I know when it’s my week for Patrol duty?
You will be given a schedule to take home for each trimester with plenty of notice prior to your shift. Your teacher will also have a copy of the schedule, and a schedule will be posted on the safety patrol equipment door. (by the library)
What time does my shift start and end?
If you are on the AM squad, you need to arrive at 8:55 in the morning. Your shift will end at 9:10 when the bell rings. If you are on the PM squad, you will be dismissed from class at 3:30 and you will need to be picked up or walk home (if you are a walking student with permission) at 3:45 when the shift is over. There is NO BUS option for PM patrol.
Where do I go when I’m on Patrol duty?
The schedule will tell you which area you are assigned. The two areas are by bus or by the trail. DO NOT ask the main office. If you are the first to arrive in the morning, or the afternoon, wait by the equipment door for at least one more member of your squad to arrive before heading out. Never go to the trail or the bus loop alone.
What if I’m sick or can’t make my shift?
We understand that people get sick and/or have appointments. When this happens and it means you will miss your scheduled patrol shift you need to email Mrs. Tripp as soon as possible to let her know. The school, as well as your other patrol members, are counting on you to be there. Therefore, if you have 3 or more unexcused absences from your patrol duties you will be removed from the schedule.
Do we still go out in bad weather?
YES! NBE students depend on you to keep them safe! We have rain jackets for you to use to stay dry if you need. It is mandatory that you wear a coat with a hood on cold/rainy days. Gloves and hats are also encouraged!
